Who are we
aimed at?
Youth in the Barn exists for 11-17 years old in
Penrith and the surrounding community. We usually
see between 50 and 80 at our main meeting on a
Friday evening.
Our Mission:
The purpose of Youth in the Barn is to give young
people a safe, caring environment in which to
develop physically, spiritually and emotionally.
What this means is that we have a good time while
promoting responsibility, accountability and
achievement in each individual and the
opportunity to think about life in the broader
perspective.
What do we do?
The Youth in the Barn meets every Friday night
from 7:30 pm until 10 pm. There are lots of
activities running on an informal basis
throughout the evening, ie table tennis,
volleyball, basketball, table football,
skateboarding / rollerblading, beauty sessions
etc. Towards the end of the evening we have whole
group activities and short discussions /
presentations in the Church and then the young
people have some "group time" to
discuss the evening's topic. We have
weekends away and occasional outings too. Recently we
have started taking out our "ministry
trailer", which we can take to the young
people hanging round the skate park etc. The
trailer has sound system, Wii and is a
centrepoint for contact with young people.
